The history of this region goes back to the1800’s when logging was the prime industry. When the logging era ended, Muskoka was transformed into the perfect getaway from Toronto, the big city to the south. Cottages sprang up all over the lakes and with them the construction of grand resorts such as Bigwin Inn, DeerhurstResort and Windermere House. Many original antique and classic wooden boats still cruise the lakes and are celebrated throughout the summer at a variety of regattas and antique boat shows.
